
At a meeting with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at the Secretariat on Tuesday, the American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh (AmCham) pledged to help bring another $5 billion in investment to Bangladesh over the next five years.
The delegation was led by Syed Mohammad Kamal, President of AmCham Bangladesh and Vice President of Mastercard.
During the meeting, AmCham said its member companies have already invested more than $5 billion in Bangladesh and contribute over 20 per cent of the country’s tax revenue.
The chamber welcomed the government’s ongoing investment reforms and stressed the need for policy predictability, stronger digital governance, AI readiness, cybersecurity and closer public-private cooperation to attract more foreign investment.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman said Bangladesh has entered a new phase of economic transformation and assured foreign investors of the government’s full support. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to implementing reforms, ensuring efficient governance and strengthening Bangladesh-US economic cooperation.
The meeting was also attended by Commerce Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir; Rehan Asif Asad, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology; and Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun, Executive Chairman of BIDA.
The AmCham delegation included Ala Uddin Ahmad, Reza Ur Rahman Mahmud, Mohammad Habibur Rahman Bhuiyan, Mohammad Rashel Al Mamun, Mohammad Sazzad Hossain, Ataur Rahim Chowdhury and Chowdhury Kaiser Mohammad Riyad.
Meanwhile, he assured foreign investors of the government’s all-out support, saying Bangladesh currently offers a favourable investment environment and is ready to facilitate investment and create opportunities for international businesses.
