Woman detained for cutting husband’s genitals

A woman was detained after allegedly cutting her husband’s genitals with a sharp weapon during a domestic dispute in Siddhirganj, Narayanganj, on Wednesday evening.
The incident occurred around 7:30pm in the South Sanarpar area of Ward 3 of the city.
The injured man, Zahirul Islam, 32, is undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Police detained his wife, Sabikun Nahar Mim, 28, shortly after the incident.
According to police and locals, Zahirul allegedly attempted to have sexual intercourse with Mim against her will after returning home. An argument broke out between the couple, and Mim allegedly attacked him with a sharp weapon.
Neighbours rescued Zahirul in a bleeding condition after hearing his screams. He was initially taken to Narayanganj General (Victoria) Hospital and later referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for better treatment.
Mim claimed they had been involved in a long-running marital dispute and that they had verbally divorced in September 2023. She alleged that Zahirul continued to visit her despite the separation and had repeatedly tried to have sexual intercourse with her against her will.
She also claimed that Zahirul had married another woman around three months ago but continued visiting her and taking money from her after receiving his salary.
Siddhirganj Police Station Sub-Inspector Abdul Al Mamun said the woman had been detained and taken to the police station, while the injured man was sent to hospital.
Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Emdadul Haque confirmed the incident and said legal proceedings were underway.
Police said they were investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and the couple’s dispute.
