Flood threat looms over low-lying areas in 3 dists

Parts of three districts could see temporary flooding in river-adjacent low-lying areas over the next 72 hours, according to a forecast issued on Friday (August 14) by the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre of the Bangladesh Water Development Board.

The bulletin said water levels in the northern Teesta River rose over the past 24 hours, while levels in the Dharla and Dudhkumar rivers declined.

Water levels in these rivers are expected to rise over the next three days. As a result, the Teesta could flow at warning levels at several points in Nilphamari, Lalmonirhat and Rangpur, potentially inundating some low-lying areas along the river on a temporary basis.

Meanwhile, water levels in the Matamuhuri River in the Chattogram Division’s eastern and southeastern region rose over the past 24 hours.
