Husband to die for killing pregnant wife

 
A Dhaka court has sentenced Sanaullah to death for torturing and killing his pregnant wife, Rubina Begum Pinky, over dowry demands nearly 20 years ago.

Judge Munsi Md Mashiur Rahman of the Fourth Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal handed down the verdict on Monday. Sanaullah was also fined Tk 100,000.

The court acquitted nine other accused as the charges against them were not proved.

According to the case documents, Sanaullah married Pinky in November 2005. She was allegedly subjected to physical and mental torture over dowry. On May 2, 2006, she was reportedly beaten and scalded with hot water at their home in Kamrangirchar.
