Four new members are set to be introduced into the cabinet led by PM Tarique Rahman following former LGRD Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir becoming the President of Bangladesh.
Newly elected President Mirza Fakhrul is scheduled to take his oath of office on Friday around 7:30PM (August 21).
According to BNP officials and media outlets, new cabinet members will be sworn after the presidential oath-taking ceremony.
Reports cited that four members, including Abdul Moyeen Khan, Andaleeve Rahman Partha, and Saching Prue Jerry are set to take oath as ministers. Concurrently, Mohammad Shamim Kaiser Lincoln is likely to be sworn in as a state minister.
The Cabinet Division has already contacted several of the prospective ministers and requested them to be present at Bangabhaban in the evening.
Abdul Moyeen Khan, whose name appears on the new ministers' list, is a member of the BNP Standing Committee. He is the Member of Parliament for the Narsingdi-2 constituency. He was elected as a BNP candidate in the 13th National Parliamentary Election held in February.
Andaleeve Rahman Partha serves as the Chairman of Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP). His party contested the national election in alliance with the BNP. He represents the Bhola-1 constituency in Parliament.
Saching Prue Jerry is the Member of Parliament for the Bandarban constituency and serves as the convener of BNP's Bandarban district unit. He won the seat as a BNP candidate in the last general election.
Mohammad Shamim Kaiser Lincoln, who is in discussion for the post of state minister, is the Member of Parliament from Gaibandha-4 (Gobindaganj).
When the government was formed under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman in February, the cabinet comprised 50 members including the Prime Minister. Among them, 25 took oath as ministers and 24 as state ministers, excluding the Prime Minister.
Additionally, the Prime Minister has 10 advisers. Five hold the status of minister and five hold the status of state minister, though they are not members of the cabinet.
With the induction of three ministers and one state minister, the total size of the cabinet, including the Prime Minister, will increase to 54. Excluding the Prime Minister, the cabinet will feature 28 ministers and 25 state ministers.
