Kannada superstar Yash’s highly anticipated action thriller Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups' has received final clearance for theatrical release. Despite its violent and controversial scenes, India’s Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has granted the film an ‘A’ certificate without ordering any cuts.
The film is scheduled to hit cinemas worldwide on August 26.
According to the CBFC’s certification details, the Kannada-English bilingual film has a runtime of 3 hours and 12 minutes, with no major scenes removed.
However, the board has directed the filmmakers to mute or replace two objectionable words used in the Kannada version. The corresponding English subtitles must also be revised. The CBFC has additionally instructed the makers to include standard anti-smoking and anti-alcohol health warnings throughout the film.
Meanwhile, the film has already sparked widespread discussion internationally over its graphic violence, sexual content and other sensitive scenes. In the United Kingdom, the film has also been restricted to adult audiences.
Yash himself has repeatedly emphasized that 'Toxic' is intended strictly for adults. During an appearance on an Indian talk show, the actor referred to the film’s tagline, “A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups,” and said children would not be allowed to watch it in theatres as the film was not made for them.
Directed by Geetu Mohandas, 'Toxic' stars Yash alongside Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Tara Sutaria, Huma Qureshi and Rukmini Vasanth in key roles.
Amid the controversy and growing curiosity surrounding the film, 'Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups' is set to arrive in theatres worldwide on August 26.
