The Naogaon administration has fined the owner of an under-construction brick kiln Tk 100,000 for allegedly constructing the facility on agricultural land without the required licences and clearances in Sapahar upazila.
The administration also ordered the owner to suspend all construction and other activities at the kiln until the necessary approvals are obtained. The owner was further required to provide a written undertaking to remove the construction materials at his own responsibility.
The mobile court conducted the drive at the under-construction ‘Star Brick’ kiln in the Kolmudanga area of Sapahar around 3:30pm on Sunday (August 23). Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate Shah Md Rashed led the operation.
According to the administration, construction of the brick kiln was underway on agricultural land without the required licences and clearances. A few days earlier, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Romana Riaz had summoned the kiln owner and warned him to stop the unauthorised construction.
However, as construction continued despite the warning, the administration conducted the drive on Sunday and fined the owner Tk 100,000 under relevant provisions of the Brick Manufacturing and Brick Kiln Establishment (Control) Act, 2013.
Following the operation, the administration ordered the suspension of all activities related to the establishment of the kiln until the required licences and clearances are obtained. The owner also signed an undertaking to remove all construction materials used for the kiln at his own responsibility.
The administration said drives against unauthorised brick kilns established on agricultural land in violation of environmental regulations and the law would continue.
