The body of a five-year-old boy was recovered from the Brahmaputra River in Kapasia of Gazipur, three days after he went missing.
The deceased was identified as Zahid Hasan was the son of Mizanur Rahman of Khirati village in Ghagatia Union of Kapasia Upazila.
According to police, Zahid Hasan, 5, went missing at around 1:00 PM on August 27. After searching for him in various places without success, his family members filed a general diary (GD) with Kapasia Police Station.
At around 8:00 PM today, Saturday, local residents spotted the child’s body floating at a ghat on the Brahmaputra River, approximately 400 metres from his home. After being informed, police from Kapasia Police Station went to the scene and recovered the body.
Mohammad Nazmul Islam, a sub-inspector (SI) of Kapasia Police Station, said, “At around 8 a.m. today, local residents saw the body floating in the Brahmaputra River near the child’s home and informed the police station. I was on Mobile-4 duty at the time and went to the scene with a police team and recovered the child’s body.”
Asked how the child went missing and how he ended up in the river, SI Nazmul Islam said the matter would be determined after speaking with the family members. However, he said no signs of injury were found on the child’s body.
The family has requested that the body not be sent for an autopsy.
The police official said, ''a decision would be made after consulting senior authorities.''
