A Dhaka court on Monday granted two-day remand to barrister Md Zaki Ullah Bahar and three others in a case filed over the recovery of firearms and live ammunition in the capital’s Sutrapur area.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Arifur Rahman passed the order after hearing a seven-day remand plea filed by police.

The other accused are Md Anwarul Haque, Zakir Hossain Liton and Hiru Barua Babu.

According to the case documents, police recovered two locally made pipe guns and two live 12-bore cartridges from two shopping bags allegedly left behind at a shop in Nazim Uddin Baro Bhuiyan Market on August 19.

Police also seized three mobile phones and a 64GB USB drive containing CCTV footage.

Investigators said the accused allegedly brought the weapons to the shop to implicate its owner, Hafiz Ullah Bhuiyan, in a false arms case as part of a plan to take control of his market and shop.

Police sought the remand to identify and arrest absconding suspects, trace the source of the weapons and determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
