Chinese fish traps and 2000m of nets in a campaign in Kaukhali

The Upazila Administration and Fisheries Department have conducted a campaign against banned China fish traps in Kaukhali and seized 5 thousand meters of illegally obtained nets which were then burned and destroyed in public.

The campaign was conducted from noon to afternoon in various canals and bilges of the Upazila on Monday (August 24). Participating in the campaign are officers and employees of the Upazila Fisheries Officer and members of the law enforcement agencies.

During the campaign, a large amount of banned China fish traps were seized from various points. Later, these fish traps alongside some seized nets were burned and destroyed.

Kaukhali Upazila Fisheries Officer, Md. Hafizur Rahman said that the campaigns are being conducted regularly to prevent fishermen from using illegal nets and preserve aquatic

biodiversity. He adds that the campaign will continue in the future.
