A 29-year-old female engineer died after her scarf and hair became entangled in a generator while she was inspecting work at an IOM hospital in Rohingya Camp-3 in Ukhiya on Monday.

The deceased, Farhana Haque, a resident of Uttara in Dhaka, was serving as a senior field engineer with the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

Police and local sources said Farhana went to the IOM hospital in Block A/11 of Camp-3 around 9:30am for a work inspection. At around 10:20am, her scarf became caught in a generator, and her hair was also pulled into the machine, leaving her critically injured.

Doctors at the hospital provided initial treatment and advised that she be taken to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital as her condition deteriorated. She died on the way, police said.

Ukhiya Police Station Officer-in-Charge Atikur Rahman said the incident was being investigated and legal action would follow.

Police said they were also examining how the accident occurred and whether the generator had been safely installed and operated.
