India likely to visit Bangladesh in January

The Indian cricket team is likely to tour Bangladesh in January next year, following delays to the white-ball series originally scheduled for September.

According to Indian news agency ANI citing a BCCI source, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is seeking a suitable window early next year due to uncertainty surrounding the September schedule.

"The India-Bangladesh series is likely to take place in January. Discussions with the government are still ongoing. Meanwhile, BCB is looking for a window early next year," the BCCI source told ANI.

India was initially scheduled to visit Bangladesh in August 2025, but the tour was later postponed to September 2026. In January this year, BCB announced that India would play three ODIs and three T20Is in Dhaka and Chittagong. However, the BCCI has not yet issued any official statement regarding the tour.

BCB President Tamim Iqbal recently addressed the matter during a press conference. He stated that discussions are ongoing between both boards and dates may be adjusted.

The Indian cricket team last toured Bangladesh in 2022. Subsequent political shifts in Bangladesh led to heightened diplomatic tensions, leading to multiple postponements of India’s scheduled visits due to security concerns.

Relations worsened earlier this year after Kolkata Knight Riders released Bangladeshi pacer Mustafizur Rahman following directives from the Indian board, prompting Bangladesh to skip traveling to India for the T20 World Cup. However, relations have begun to normalize following recent political developments in Bangladesh.

While prospects of holding the series in September initially improved under the leadership of Tamim Iqbal at BCB, fresh scheduling challenges have deferred the proposed dates.
