A member of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) was injured after being hit by a brick during the garment workers' protest in Kaliakair, Gazipur, on Monday, as workers continued demanding a minimum monthly wage of Tk 30,000.
The incident occurred when workers blocked the Dhaka-Tangail highway in the Chandra-Palli Bidyut area to press their demand.
According to reports, a BGB member was struck by a brick thrown by protesters during the demonstration. He was quickly rescued and taken to a hospital for treatment.
Earlier, tight security measures were taken across Gazipur to prevent deterioration of law and order and avoid further untoward incidents amid the workers' unrest. At the initiative of the district administration, 10 platoons of BGB personnel were deployed under the supervision of 21 executive magistrates.
