Locals and relatives of a businessman killed in a public assault blocked the Mouchaak-Jamalpur regional road in Kaliakair, Gazipur, on Friday morning, demanding the arrest of the remaining accused in the case.
The protesters alleged that although a murder case was filed over a month ago, police have yet to arrest all the accused. The blockade at Thakurpara started in the morning and disrupted traffic for about an hour.
The victim, Md Azibor Rahman, son of Marfat Ali of Thakurpara, was attacked on July 23 while returning home by auto-rickshaw from the Fatik Market area. According to locals and the case statement, Sharif and his two sons, Sagar Hossain and Sumon, allegedly attacked him with sharp weapons and iron pipes.
Azibor was critically injured and admitted to the emergency department of KPJ Specialised Hospital. He died in the hospital’s ICU on August 19.
His wife, Nasrin Akter, later filed a murder case with Kaliakair Police Station. Police have arrested one accused, while the others remain absconding.
Kaliakair Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shahidul Islam said police were trying to arrest the remaining accused.
