The death toll from devastating flash floods in Nepal has risen to 1,287, while 5,083 people remain missing, according to the latest update from the country’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority on Friday.

In neighbouring Tibet, 21 people have died and 541 remain missing. Combined, the disaster that struck on August 26 has claimed at least 1,308 lives, with 5,624 people still missing across Nepal and Tibet.

Around 800 of those missing are believed to be foreign nationals, including mountaineers and pilgrims travelling to Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar, sites considered sacred by Hindus and Buddhists.

Floodwaters also carried bodies into India, where 17 bodies have so far been recovered. They have not been included in the official death toll.
