1,800 litres of stolen diesel seized at Hatiya ferry terminal, 1 held

Police seized 1,800 litres of stolen diesel and 200 litres of mobile oil from a ferry pontoon in Hatiya upazila of Noakhali. One person was arrested in this connection.

The estimated market value of the seized diesel and mobile oil is Tk 3.27 lakh.

Hatiya Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Kabir Hossain confirmed the matter in a press release on Monday afternoon.

Earlier, police conducted a drive on a ferry pontoon east of Nalchira Ghat in Char Ishwar Union around 10:15 PM on Saturday and seized the oil.

The arrested person is Md Zaker Uddin, 35, son of Khorshed Alam of Talukdar village in Char Ishwar Union.

Police said, "they conducted the drive based on a tip-off. At the time, Shahed Uddin alias Tel Shahed, 28, Md Riaz Uddin, 32, and three to four others managed to flee."

Police later recovered 720 litres of diesel from four large tin drums, 900 litres from 30 plastic jerrycans and another 180 litres from nine jerrycans.

They also recovered 200 litres of mobile oil from a large drum.

According to police, the 1,800 litres of diesel are worth Tk 2.07 lakh, while the 200 litres of mobile oil are worth Tk 1.20 lakh.

OC Md Kabir Hossain said, "a case was filed with Hatiya Police Station against the arrested person for allegedly storing oil without valid documents."

Police are conducting drives to arrest the fugitives.
