Ancelotti: Our goal is to build something for the future

Brazil are looking to start a new chapter after leaving behind the disappointment of the World Cup. With the 2030 World Cup ahead, coach Carlo Ancelotti wants to build a new-look national team by combining experienced players with young talent.
Five-time world champions Brazil appointed Ancelotti as their head coach in 2025. Under the Italian coach, the team reached the last 16 at this year’s World Cup. However, he now wants to begin preparations for the 2030 World Cup as part of a long-term plan.
“We have to build a balanced team. Alongside those who played in the previous campaign, we need to bring in young players who can add new energy to the team. Our goal is to build something for the future without losing our competitive mindset,” Ancelotti said.
Brazil are also working separately on developing young players. As part of Ancelotti’s plan, the senior national team is coordinating with age-group teams to prepare promising players for the national side.
“We are looking at promising young players. We are working together with the age-group teams because we want to know who can help the national team in the future. When they are ready, we have to give them opportunities,” Ancelotti said.
Brazil will play three matches during the September-October international window. After two matches against Australia, they will face India for the first time. Of the 26 players named in the squad for the upcoming fixtures, eight are new faces.
As the team goes through this transitional phase, creating cohesion among the players will be one of Ancelotti’s biggest challenges. Brazil have not reached a World Cup final since winning the title 24 years ago. The Italian coach therefore wants to lay a strong foundation at the beginning of this new cycle.
“We have four years ahead of us. So we have to be patient and make good use of the FIFA windows. We do not have much time together, but we have enough time to build a clear plan and a strong team,” he said.
Ten players from Brazil’s domestic league have been included in the latest squad. However, Ancelotti does not want to give importance to which league a player plays in when selecting the national team.
“We are looking at players everywhere. Where they play is not important. What matters is their physical condition, their quality and what they can give to the national team,” he said.
