Two electrocuted in two districts

Two people died from separate electrocution incidents at Kawkhali Upazila of Pirojpur District and in Gopalganj District in two days.

KAWKHALI, PIROJPUR: An elderly bread seller was electrocuted while cutting a tree branch beside a road in the Shialkathi Chowrasta area of Shialkathi Union in Kawkhali Upazila of the district on Thursday morning. 

Deceased Sirajul Islam alias Harejul Haque, 65, was the son of Nurul Haque of Shialkathi Village.

According to local residents, Sirajul went to cut a branch of a roadside tree at around 10 am to feed his goat. A Rural Electrification Board main power line carrying 33,000 volts ran directly above the tree. 

While he was cutting the branch, a tender branch accidentally fell directly onto the power line. The entire tree became electrified instantly, causing Sirajul to suffer an electric shock and be thrown into a nearby yard. He died on the spot.

Officer-in-Charge of Kawkhali Police Station Md Anwar Hossain confirmed the incident.

GOPALGANJ: A man was electrocuted in Pingalia Village under Kashiani Upazila of the district on Wednesday morning.

The deceased Boshar Mina, 55, was the son of Babu Mina of the village.

After finishing his work in the field, Boshar Mina touched a GI wire installed in the yard of his home for drying clothes and was electrocuted at around 9 am. Neither he nor his family members knew that the wire had already become electrically charged.

Family members rescued him and took him to the Kashiani Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
