Two persons were killed and another was injured in separate road accidents in Goaplganj District and Sonargaon Upazila of Narayanganj District on Thursday.
GOPALGANJ: A motorcyclist was killed and a passenger seriously injured when a bus struck their motorcycle in Muksudpur Upazila of the district on Thursday afternoon.
The crash occurred around 3 pm near Matia Bridge when a local bus travelling from Baraitala hit the motorcycle coming from the opposite direction, killing rider Salman Molla, 18, son of Shahid Molla of Lohair Village, on the spot.
The injured passenger, Parash Molla, 16, son of Almas Molla of Lohair Village, was taken to Muksudpur Upazila Health Complex and later referred to Faridpur Medical College Hospital for further treatment.
Officer-in-Charge of Muksudpur Police Station Abdullah Al Mamun said the bus was detained. The victim’s body will be handed over to his family after legal procedures are completed.
SONARGAON, NARAYANGANJ: A 35-year-old motorcyclist was killed after a speeding truck struck his motorcycle and ran him over on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway in the Pirojpur area of Pirojpur Union in Sonargaon Upazila of the district on Thursday morning.
Deceased Hafez Mawlana Mufti Al Jahid was the only son of Md Shah Alam Mia of Nayakamta Village in Burichang Upazila of Cumilla District.
Police said, Jahid had attended an Islamic gathering at a madrasa in Sonargaon on Wednesday and stayed there overnight after the programme ended late.
He left for his home in Cumilla on his motorcycle around 10:30 am on Thursday. The truck struck his motorcycle, throwing him onto the highway, where he was run over and died on the spot, police said.
Police later detained the truck and its driver near the Meghna Toll Plaza. The driver’s identity was not immediately available. Jahid’s body was sent to morgue for an autopsy.
