Two killed in Barishal road mishaps

BARISHAL, Sept 11: Two motorcyclists were killed and another person was injured in separate accidents on the Dhaka-Barishal highway in Gournadi Upazila of the district on Friday.

Arafat Rahman Babu, 32, was killed around 10:30 am on Friday when his motorcycle collided head-on with a Tajbi Paribahan bus in Dakkhin Bijoypur, police said. Arafat, a resident of Ashokathi Village and father of two, was declared dead at Gournadi Upazila Health Complex.

His co-rider, Asadul Islam, 31, was seriously injured and transferred to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barishal.

In a separate accident around 2:30 am on Friday, Mehedi Hasan Turag, 32, died when his motorcycle fell into a highway ditch and collided with an oncoming truck in Kataksthal, police said. The truck fled and had not been identified.

Officer-in-Charge of Gournadi Highway Police Station Mohsin Hossain said the police seized the bus and the motorcycle.
