Patients, attendants suffer at Dhobaura Health Complex

DHOBAURA, MYMENSINGH, Oct 10: Patients and their attendants are suffering from a foul smell and unhygienic conditions at Dhobaura Upazila Health Complex in Mymensingh.

Garbage piles, dirty toilets and drains clogged with human waste in different parts of the hospital are causing the stench, patients and their attendants alleged.

They also complained that dirt and waste have accumulated on hospital floors, in surrounding areas and inside and around air-conditioning units.

Children, elderly people and patients suffering from breathing difficulties are facing greater problems because of the unhygienic environment, attendants said. They alleged that coming to the hospital for treatment in such conditions is increasing health risks for patients.

Meanwhile, the hospital is also facing a manpower shortage, while repair work costing more than Tk 15 lakh has reportedly remained suspended for a long time.

The prolonged suspension of the work is disrupting the hospital's services and infrastructure-related activities, locals alleged.

Dr Promit Pal, Resident Medical Officer of the health complex, said the authorities concerned had been informed about the various problems at the hospital.

He expressed hope that the problems would be resolved soon.

Patients and locals have demanded immediate removal of garbage, cleaning of toilets and drains, and regular sanitation activities at the hospital.

They also called for completing the long-delayed repair work as soon as possible to ensure a cleaner and more patient-friendly environment.
