BHALUKA, MYMENSINGH, Oct 10: Hatem Khan, convener of the Bhaluka Municipal BNP, distributed saris, lungis and other gifts among members of the Hindu community ahead of Durga Puja at the Upazila Central Harisabha Temple in Bhaluka Bazar on Saturday morning.
Organisers said 1,700 items were distributed, including 870 saris, 530 lungis and 300 other gifts. They said the gifts were arranged for 1,400 people.
“I have stood by you for a long time and want to remain by your side for the rest of my life,” Khan said. “If you allow me to continue serving you, I will keep doing so, putting service above my personal interests.”
He also outlined initiatives to address problems at local temples. He said concrete work on the roof of a temple in Ward No. 3 of the municipality had been completed, while construction of a toilet, a stage and a bathing area at another temple was nearing completion.
Other speakers at the event included Convener of the Municipal Tanti Dal Abdus Samad, Convener of the Municipal Matsyajibi Dal Aminul Islam, President of the Municipal Mohila Dal Nasrin Sultana China and General Secretary Mahmuda Akter, Joint Conveners of the Municipal BNP Jahir Raihan and Saidur Rahman, and Senior Joint Convener Shamsuddin Ahmed.
Local members of the Hindu community and people from various professions also attended the event.
