LAXMIPUR, Oct 10: Jamaat-e-Islami has launched a weeklong mosquito-control campaign in the district to raise public awareness and help prevent dengue and chikungunya.
The campaign was inaugurated on Thursday morning, in the area around Laxmipur Sadar Hospital, where organisers sprayed insecticide, spread bleaching powder and distributed leaflets. The initiative was organised by the district and town units of Jamaat-e-Islami.
Laxmipur Town Jamaat Ameer Abul Farah Nishan chaired the event. District Jamaat Ameer SUM Ruhul Amin Bhuiyan was the chief guest.
District Jamaat Secretary AR Hafiz Ullah, Sadar Hospital Resident Medical Officer Dr Arup Pal, District Youth Wing President Shamsul Islam and Town Jamaat Secretary Harunur Rashid also attended.
SUM Ruhul Amin Bhuiyan said dengue and chikungunya cases are increasing and urged people to take measures to control mosquitoes and prevent the diseases. He called for keeping household surroundings clean and using mosquito nets at night.
