100 kg jelly-filled shrimp seized at Dumuria

DUMURIA, KHULNA, Sept 11: A mobile court conducted by Dumuria Upazila Fisheries Officer Sohel Md Zillur Rahman Regan and Assistant Commissioner (Land) Amit Kumar Biswas on Thursday seized and destroyed 100 kilograms of jelly-pushed shrimp.

The mobile court detained a man identified as Dilip Baidya and fined him Tk 10,000 for the crime.

The AC (Land) said such practices would not be tolerated and that inspections would continue to protect consumers and ensure safe fish products.

Regan said injecting substances into shrimp harms consumers and damages the country’s shrimp industry and export market.

Officials said they would maintain a zero-tolerance policy toward adulteration and other irregularities in shrimp products. Police from Dumuria and the Maguraghona police camps assisted in the operation.
