92 nabbed in N’ganj anti-drug drive

 
NARAYANGANJ, Sept 11:  Police have arrested five alleged drug dealers and 87 alleged drug users in a special anti-drug drive across seven police station areas in Narayanganj.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Tarek Al Mehedi said the drive was conducted on Wednesday on the instructions of newly appointed Superintendent of Police Mohammad Habibur Rahman and under the leadership of senior police officials.

The five alleged drug dealers were identified as Sohel, from Balur Math area under Fatulla Model Police Station; Sagar, a suspected drug dealer from Isdair; and Jewel, Shukkur Ali and Setara Begum, who police described as notorious drug traders in the Bandar area.
Police said cases would be filed against the five under the Narcotics Control Act. 

A report would also be sent to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Dhaka, recommending that money laundering cases be filed against them under the Money Laundering Prevention Act, 2012.

During the drive, 13 alleged drug users were arrested in Sadar Model Police Station area, while 36 alleged drug users and two alleged drug dealers were arrested in Fatulla.

Nine alleged drug users and three alleged drug dealers were arrested in Bandar, while 17 alleged drug users were arrested in Siddhirganj.

Police also arrested two alleged drug users in Sonargaon, four in Araihazar and six in Rupganj Upazila of the district.

The arrested individuals will be produced before a court on Thursday, according to police.

Police said they have stepped up operations against drug-related activities, terrorism, mugging and other crimes since Habibur Rahman joined as Narayanganj SP.

According to police, around 300 people have been arrested in the district in the past three days in connection with drug-related activities.
