A young man was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Khulna city on Saturday morning.
The deceased was identified as Md Jalil Munsi, son of Dilur Munsi and a worker at Ispahani Jute Press.
The incident occurred around 8:30 AM near Bottola in Kulibagan area under Daulatpur Police Station.
According to police and locals, Jalil was heading to his father’s betel-leaf shop around 7:45 AM when he received a phone call and got into an argument. Shortly afterwards, three men on a motorcycle confronted him near Bottola.
At one point, one of the men fired two shots at Jalil, hitting him in the right side of the chest and left side of the back.
Locals rescued him and took him to Khulna Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Police recovered a live bullet from the scene.
Daulatpur Police Station OC Md Zahidul Islam said a patrol team chased the attackers after the shooting, but they managed to flee.
KMP Deputy Commissioner (North) Sudarshan Kumar Roy said no one had been arrested yet. Police were investigating the motive behind the killing and trying to identify those involved.
