The moon of Rabius Sani, the fourth month of the Islamic calendar, has been sighted in Bangladesh, with the month beginning on Sunday, September 13.
The National Moon Sighting Committee announced the decision at a meeting held at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque on Saturday evening.
The meeting was chaired by Religious Affairs Minister Kazi Shah Mofazzal Hossain (Kaykobaad).
According to the Islamic Foundation, the committee reviewed reports received from district administrations, its headquarters and divisional and district offices, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department and the Bangladesh Space Research and Remote Sensing Organisation (SPARSO) before reaching the decision.
Fateha-e-Yazdaham will be observed on Wednesday, September 23.
Islamic Foundation Director General Mufti Muhammad Muhibbullahil Baqi Nadvi, Religious Affairs Ministry Additional Secretary A H M Kamruzzaman, Bangladesh Television Chief News Editor Md Kamrul Islam and Islamic Foundation Director of the Dawah and Culture Department Dr Mohammad Harunur Rashid attended the meeting.
Bangladesh Meteorological Department Director Md Mominul Islam, SPARSO Chief Scientific Officer Dr Muhammad Shahidul Islam, Cabinet Division Joint Secretary Mohammad Khorshed Alam Khan and Religious Affairs Ministry Joint Secretary Sadeq Ahmed were also present.
