Ashuganj BNP declares Rumin Farhana unwelcome

Ashuganj upazila BNP has declared independent MP Barrister Rumin Farhana unwelcome in the area, protesting her criticism of the BNP government in parliament.

BNP and its affiliated organisations held a protest rally and broom procession in Ashuganj, Brahmanbaria, on Saturday afternoon.

Party activists from different unions of the upazila joined the procession. Earlier, a brief rally was held at the Ashuganj upazila BNP office, from where the activists marched through the main roads carrying brooms before returning to the office.

Ashuganj upazila BNP President Haji Md Shahjahan Siraj presided over the rally. District BNP member Md Zakir Hossain, upazila BNP General Secretary Md Habibur Rahman, Organising Secretary Kamal Hossain Joy and Joint General Secretary Md Shamim Chowdhury, among others, spoke at the event.

In his speech, Shahjahan Siraj accused Rumin Farhana of serving the interests of India and the Awami League through her parliamentary remarks on gas and electricity shortages.

“We reject her remarks with contempt and declare her unwelcome on the soil of Ashuganj,” he said.

Rumin Farhana, an independent MP from Brahmanbaria-2 constituency, criticised the BNP government during the third session of parliament on September 9.

She said every government had its own character and that the BNP could not come to power without facing gas and electricity shortages, fertiliser crises, corruption and loan defaults.

Saturday’s rally and broom procession were held in protest against those remarks.
