Police have arrested eight leaders of the Jubo League, the banned organisational wing of the Awami League, during a secret meeting in the capital’s Uttarkhan area.
The arrests were made during a police raid in the Taltala area on Saturday night, Uttarkhan police said.
According to Uttarkhan Police Station OC, the raid was conducted based on confidential information that Jubo League leaders were holding a clandestine meeting in the area.
Police arrested eight leaders during the operation, while at least 30 unidentified leaders and activists managed to flee, the OC said.
Legal proceedings are underway against those arrested.
Police are continuing their efforts to identify and arrest the other individuals who fled the scene.
