Schoolboy killed while returning home in Tongi

An eight-year-old schoolboy was killed after being hit by a covered van in Tongi, Gazipur, on Monday morning.

The accident occurred around 10:30 AM in the Natun Bazar area on the Tongi-Kaliganj regional road.

The deceased, Rabbie, was the son of Salamat Mia of Banker Math Basti in Tongi. He was a second-grade student at Railway Shishu Bidyaniketan.

Police and witnesses said Rabbie was returning home after school when a speeding covered van hit him, leaving him critically injured. Locals rescued him and took him to Tongi Shaheed Ahsan Ullah Master General Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Locals later detained the driver and the vehicle and handed them over to police.
