The prosecution has filed formal charges with the International Crimes Tribunal against eight people, including Professor Dr Zafar Iqbal, former Dhaka University vice-chancellor Maksud Kamal and former Appellate Division judge AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik, over alleged attacks on DU students during the July-August 2024 anti-discrimination student movement.
The prosecution filed the charges with the tribunal on Wednesday.
According to the prosecution, the accused had roles in attacks on students and efforts to suppress the movement in the Dhaka University area.
The prosecution claimed that their direct or indirect involvement in the incidents emerged during the investigation.
It said the formal charges were filed based on information and documents obtained during the investigation.
The tribunal will now hear the charges and proceed with the next legal steps.
