TCB drops 5.9m beneficiaries: Minister

The minister made the remarks on Thursday while inaugurating the sale of TCB products at Karwan Bazar in the capital.

He said disparities in the supply and supply-chain systems were still affecting market stability.

''TCB’s subsidised programmes would continue to benefit people, particularly amid the existing imbalance in the market.''

Muktadir said digitising TCB cards would save the government Tk 3 billion to Tk 3.5 billion.

He added that arrangements would be made to ensure beneficiaries do not lose access to subsidised goods if their cards are lost or damaged. Digital services would make the process easier, he said.

On the appointment of TCB dealers, Muktadir said an online dealer management system would be introduced. If applications exceed the number of available dealerships, the selection would be conducted through a digital lottery.
