Major Sabbir testifies on horrific killings by Ziaul Ahsan at ICT

Former military officer Major Sabbir told International Crimes Tribunal-1 on Thursday (September 17) that four witnesses to the BDR massacre were shot, slit open, packed in bags, and dumped into a river under the direct orders of former RAB Intelligence Wing chief Ziaul Ahsan.
Testifying as an eyewitness in a enforced disappearance case, Major Sabbir said members of RAB-8 Intelligence Wing carried out the killings in May 2010 on a fishing trawler near Chorduani in Patharghata, Barguna.
He stated that the victims, including eyewitness Nazrul Islam, were blindfolded and brought to the Baleshwar River. RAB personnel shot them, slit their bellies, tied them in cement bags, and threw them into the river in the presence of Ziaul Ahsan.
The former army officer further testified that another individual was murdered using the exact same method in 2010.
He added that in 2011, a boatman named Alkas, who was involved in Ziaul Ahsan's gulf operations, was also forcibly disappeared and killed.
Several high-profile witnesses, including former Army Chief Iqbal Karim Bhuiyan as well as eyewitness army and RAB officials, have testified against Ziaul Ahsan in this case.
The tribunal will record the testimony of the investigating officer next, followed by closing arguments. This marks the first enforced disappearance case in 16 years to reach its final stage of trial.
