Three people, including a child, were killed and three others injured in a head-on collision between a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and a pickup van in Dhamrai, Dhaka, on Thursday afternoon.
The accident occurred around 4:30 PM in the West Nandeshwari Bottola area of Dhamrai, near the Manikganj border.
The deceased were identified as CNG driver Jewel, 40, passenger Zakaria, 13, and Ankhi Akter, 25. All three were from Tangail.
The injured are Lucky Akter, 32, Abul Hossain, 65, and Selim, 35. They were taken to Saturia Upazila Health Complex in Manikganj.
According to locals and hospital sources, the passenger-laden CNG collided head-on with a pickup coming from the opposite direction, leaving the auto-rickshaw badly damaged.
Jewel died on the spot. Locals rescued the other passengers and took them to the hospital, where doctors declared two more dead.
Ankhi’s father and injured passenger Abul Hossain said seven people, including the driver, were travelling in the CNG. A six-year-old child named Sadia escaped unharmed.
Police and locals carried out the rescue operation after the accident. Saturia police said the injured were receiving treatment and the inquest reports of the deceased were being prepared.
