Trisal bus accident: death toll rises to three

The deceased were identified as Raitul Hasan Khan, 40, son of Gias Uddin of Kazir Shimla area; Bazlur Rahman alias Dalim, son of Nurul Islam of Borogram Munshibari area; and Almina, 14, of Kajlar Char. All of them were residents of Trishal.

The accident occurred around 8:30 AM on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in the Kazir Shimla area of Trishal upazila.

According to police, two Mahindra vehicles were parked beside the highway while a CNG-run auto-rickshaw was travelling towards Mymensingh. At that time, the United Paribahan bus, coming from the same direction, first hit one of the parked Mahindra vehicles and then collided with the CNG-run auto-rickshaw.

Two people died on the spot. Ten critically injured people were rescued and taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. Later, around 2:30pm, Almina, 14, died while undergoing treatment.

All the injured were passengers of the Mahindra and CNG-run auto-rickshaw, according to sources.

Bristy Akter, a passenger on the bus, said, t"he driver suddenly became unconscious while driving, causing the bus to lose control. The driver's assistant tried to take control of the bus but failed. 

After hitting the Mahindra and CNG-run auto-rickshaw, the bus crashed into the boundary wall of Pacific Ideal High School beside the highway and overturned.

Trishal Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mansur Ahmed said, "two people died at the scene and a teenage girl died while undergoing treatment at the hospital. Three critically injured people were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, while the others are receiving treatment at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital."

Legal proceedings in connection with the accident are underway.
