Afghanistan warns Pakistan over possible attack

Afghanistan’s Taliban government has warned Pakistan against any possible military action on Afghan territory, saying Kabul reserves the right to respond in self-defence.

Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid said in an interview to Al-Arabia english, Afghanistan would not remain silent if Pakistan launched an attack inside the country. He stressed that Afghanistan has the right to defend its territory and sovereignty.

The warning comes amid growing tensions between the two neighbours over cross-border militancy. Pakistan has repeatedly accused militants of using Afghan soil to plan and carry out attacks inside Pakistan, allegations Kabul has rejected.

The Taliban government has also denied allowing Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) to use Afghan territory for attacks against Pakistan.

Islamabad has previously warned that it could take measures in self-defence if cross-border attacks originating from Afghanistan continue.
