The government will take initiatives to establish separate, modern healthcare centres to expand infertility treatment facilities in the country, said Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Hossain on Sunday.
He made the remarks at a seminar on polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) awareness at Dhaka Medical College.
The minister said modern equipment must be ensured for infertility treatment while skilled doctors need to be trained in the field.
''Training opportunities should also be arranged for medical students.''
Sakhawat Hossain stressed the need to raise awareness so that couples unable to have children do not face social harassment.
He also urged people to maintain confidence in local doctors.
''The number of hospital beds remains inadequate compared with the country's population and called for expanding both bed capacity and the overall scope of healthcare services.''
