Three of Imran Khan’s sisters detained ahead of PTI protest

Three sisters of jailed former Pakistani Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan have been detained in Lahore ahead of the party’s planned nationwide protest and march towards Islamabad on September 27.

Imran’s sisters Dr Uzma Khan and Noreen Niazi were detained for 30 days on Monday under the Punjab Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) Ordinance. Their detention followed that of their sister Aleema Khan a day earlier under the same law.

According to an order issued by the Lahore deputy commissioner’s office, Uzma and Noreen were accused of mobilising PTI workers through social media and public gatherings and of posing a potential threat to public order. The order also referred to their alleged involvement in the May 9 protests and related cases.

The three sisters are being held amid heightened political tensions over PTI’s September 27 protest, which the party says is aimed at demanding Imran Khan’s release and the supremacy of the Constitution.

PTI has condemned the detentions, describing them as an abuse of authority and a violation of fundamental rights. The party also alleged that Uzma and Noreen were taken away in an armoured vehicle. These allegations were made by PTI officials and have not been independently verified.

Aleema Khan was ordered to be detained for 30 days on Sunday and was subsequently taken to Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat Jail, according to police sources cited by Dawn.
