Rifat Chowdhury gets cabin after two days on hospital floor

Poet and former popular Bangla drama actor Rifat Chowdhury, who is seriously ill, has been receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
After being admitted to the hospital, he had to spend two days on the floor as no bed was initially available. He was later given a bed, but the cost of treatment became another concern. Dhaka Post published a special report on his situation on Monday, after which the issue drew widespread attention in the showbiz community.
Rifat was moved to a hospital cabin on Monday night. He confirmed the matter himself to Dhaka Post.
“I was moved to a cabin last night. I am now on bed rest. After all the tests are completed, the doctors will review my medical file and start treatment,” he said on Tuesday.
Dhaka Medical College physician and poet Amitabh Aranya, who has been supporting Rifat since the beginning of his hospital stay, said the actor now needs financial assistance.
“I discussed the issue of financial assistance with Rifat bhai. He does not have a bank or bKash account of his own. So, anyone who wants to help can send donations to my bKash personal account at 01934-741450. The money will be delivered to Rifat bhai properly,” he said.
Amitabh said Rifat is currently staying in Cabin 103 on the 10th floor of Medicine Unit 3 at the new building of DMCH.
“After your report was published, several people contacted us today. I hope some assistance will come through them. Most of the tests were done yesterday. Two more tests are scheduled for tomorrow (Wednesday). After that, the main treatment will begin,” he said.
Rifat has mainly been suffering from problems with his legs and waist and cannot walk properly. He has also been estranged from his family for a long time and has received little support from people in the showbiz industry.
He went to the hospital alone and has largely faced the situation by himself. However, after news of his illness and difficulties became public, the Actors’ Association and showbiz artistes have also assured him of support.
