Dengue deaths cross 200 as 104 die in September

Six more people have died of dengue in the past 24 hours, taking the country's death toll from the mosquito-borne disease to 201 this year.

Another 1,868 dengue patients were admitted to hospitals across the country during the same period, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The DGHS released the figures in its regular dengue bulletin on Wednesday.

Of the 201 deaths recorded this year, 104 occurred in September alone, while 43 were reported in August, 36 in July, 13 in June, one in May, and two each in January and February.

With the latest admissions, the number of dengue patients hospitalised this year has reached 67,367. A total of 1,557 patients were discharged from hospitals in the past 24 hours, taking the number of recoveries to 62,117.

Dhaka division recorded the highest number of new hospital admissions in the past 24 hours, with 757 patients. Chattogram reported 317, Khulna 280, Barishal 178, Rajshahi 156, Mymensingh 113, Rangpur 59 and Sylhet eight.
