17 die from dengue and measles symptoms in a day

Seventeen people have died across the country in the past 24 hours, with 11 deaths reported among patients with measles symptoms and six from dengue, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The DGHS reported the figures in separate statements on Wednesday.

Eleven people died with measles symptoms in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of deaths among patients with measles symptoms to 975 between March 15 and September 23.

No death from confirmed measles was reported during the period. However, 101 people have died from confirmed measles since March 15.

A total of 1,157 new patients with measles symptoms were identified in the past 24 hours, taking the number of such cases to 183,449 since March 15. Confirmed measles cases stood at 113 during the period and 20,851 since March 15.

During the period, 162,048 patients with measles symptoms were admitted to hospitals, while 155,612 were discharged after recovery.

Meanwhile, six people died of dengue in the past 24 hours, taking the country's dengue death toll this year to 201.

Another 1,868 dengue patients were admitted to hospitals across the country during the period.

As of September 23, a total of 67,367 dengue patients had been hospitalised this year, while 62,117 had recovered and been discharged. Currently, 1,557 dengue patients are receiving treatment in hospitals.
