Three bodies recovered from beach in Ukhia

Police have recovered three unidentified bodies from the beach in Ukhia of Cox's Bazar in a single day.

The bodies were recovered from the Madarbunia and Monkhali areas of Jaliapalong union between 11:30 AM and 2:45 PM on Wednesday.

Ukhia Police Station Officer-in-Charge Atikur Rahman said the bodies were sent to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital for autopsies.

According to police, locals first spotted a body on the beach about 400 yards south of the Madarbunia boat ghat in Ward 8 of Jaliapalong union around 11:30 AM. They informed the in-charge of the Inani police outpost, and police later recovered the body.

Around 2:45 PM, two more bodies were recovered from the beach in the Monkhali area of Ward 9 of the same union. Police also prepared inquest reports for the two bodies.

Police said none of the three victims had been identified yet.

On September 21, a trawler carrying Rohingyas sank in the sea off Teknaf. The Coast Guard rescued 17 people alive, while several others were reportedly missing.

OC Atikur Rahman said authorities were investigating whether any of the three bodies belonged to people missing after the trawler sinking in Teknaf.

He said necessary steps were being taken to identify the bodies and further legal action would follow in accordance with the law.
