Two Chhatra Dal groups clash at meeting in Kushtia

Two groups of Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) activists were involved in a scuffle during a meeting attended by State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit in Kushtia on Wednesday night.

The incident took place around 8:30 PM at Disha Tower in the town while the Kushtia district BNP was holding a meeting with party leaders and activists.

According to the report, an argument between JCD activists escalated into a scuffle. Some of them allegedly picked up chairs and used them during the clash. The meeting was suspended for some time before senior district BNP leaders intervened and brought the situation under control. Additional police were also deployed at the venue.

Kushtia district JCD convener Mozakkir Rahman Rabbi said there were no two groups within the organisation and that the incident stemmed from an argument. He said they were working to resolve the matter.

Kushtia district BNP convener Qutub Uddin Ahmed said the incident followed a misunderstanding over slogans by JCD activists. He said senior district leaders immediately intervened and resolved the matter.

He added that the incident did not affect the meeting between the state minister and district leaders.

The meeting began around 7:30 PM, with Qutub Uddin Ahmed in the chair. State Minister Anindya Islam Amit attended as the chief guest.

Kushtia District Council Administrator Principal Sohrawardi, Kushtia-1 MP Reza Ahmed Bachchu, reserved women’s seat MP Farida Yasmin and BNP district member secretary Engineer Zakir Hossain Sarker, among others, were present.
