World progresses when women lead: Minister Khalilur

Foreign Minister and President of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) Dr Khalilur Rahman has stated that the world moves forward when women are in leadership positions.

He made the remarks in a post published on his verified Facebook page around 5:30 AM (Bangladesh Standard Time) on Thursday (September 24).

"When women lead, the world moves forward," Dr Khalilur Rahman wrote in his post.

Highlighting current global disparities during his address at the UNGA Platform of Women Leaders, he noted the persistent gap between reality and commitments regarding gender equality in governance.

"Six out of every seven countries are still led by men, and in 2025, women made up only 5 per cent of negotiators in peace talks," he stated.

Dr Khalilur Rahman emphasized the need to move women's leadership from the margins to the center of decision-making processes.

As UNGA President, the Bangladeshi Foreign Minister is currently presiding over high-level meetings and events at the ongoing session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
