Netanyahu cuts New York visit amid security concerns

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has sharply shortened his New York visit, planning to stay in the United States for only a few hours to address the United Nations General Assembly before returning to Israel the same day.

The decision reportedly followed security warnings presented to Netanyahu during meetings with Israeli security officials. Israeli Channel 13 reported that officials advised him against extending his stay after reviewing the latest intelligence assessment.

Netanyahu is scheduled to leave Israel on Wednesday evening, arrive in the New York area on Thursday morning and address the UN General Assembly at around 2PM local time before departing for Israel later that day.

His visit comes amid heightened security concerns and expected protests in New York over Israel’s military operations in Gaza. The trip was also shortened after a planned stop in Texas to meet businessman Elon Musk was cancelled.

The Israeli prime minister has also been engaged in a public dispute with New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani ahead of his UN appearance. Netanyahu has said he will use his UN speech to defend Israel’s actions.
