Over 100 arrested at Anti-Netanyahu protest in New York

More than hundred protesters were arrested in New York on Thursday (September 24) during demonstrations against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit to the United Nations, as he addressed the General Assembly.

The New York Police Department said 103 people were arrested for disorderly conduct after protesters blocked a road near the UN headquarters. All those arrested were later released, according to reports.

The protest was organised by Jewish Voice for Peace and drew hundreds of people, who staged a sit-in and called for an end to Israel’s war in Gaza. Police ordered the protesters to clear the street before making arrests.

Among those detained were Oscar-winning actor Susan Sarandon, actor Hannah Einbinder, Democratic congressional candidate Darializa Avila Chevalier and New York City Council member Chi Ossé.

The arrests came as Netanyahu delivered his address to the UN General Assembly, where dozens of delegates walked out during his speech.
