Trump rejects Iran’s new peace proposal

US President Donald Trump has rejected Iran’s proposal for a seven-day ceasefire and told aides he expects bombing of Iran to resume after the November midterm elections, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal.
The report, citing US officials, said Iran’s proposal would reopen the Strait of Hormuz and pave the way for talks to end the regional conflict.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Friday that Tehran had sent Washington a new proposal through Qatari mediators. Under the proposal, Iran would reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days if Trump agreed to its terms.
Araghchi said the proposal included terms from an agreement reached in June and that everything was ready for an agreement and the reopening of the strategic waterway.
Following the Wall Street Journal report, Reuters contacted White House officials for details, but they declined to comment.
Iran was still awaiting an official US response to the proposal on Saturday, according to Reuters.
