BCB to hold urgent meeting over Joty’s captaincy

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will hold a meeting with the women’s team players on Monday to discuss Nigar Sultana Joty’s decision to step down as T20I captain and the team’s coaching set-up.

BCB Women’s Wing chairman Rafiqul Islam Babu will meet the players and speak with Joty before discussing the matter with BCB president Tamim Iqbal, according to reports.

Joty had informed the BCB by email that she would step down as T20I captain after the Asian Games, while continuing as captain in the ODI format. She said she wanted to focus more on her batting and overall game.

The development came after Bangladesh were eliminated from the Asian Games women’s cricket competition following a defeat to India in the semi-final and later lost to Pakistan in the bronze-medal match. Joty played her final match as T20I captain against Pakistan.

The meeting will also discuss the coaching panel ahead of Bangladesh’s scheduled tour of Australia for an ODI series from October 3.

Jugantor reported that several national team players had raised allegations about Joty’s conduct, including claims of excessive shouting and verbal abuse. These allegations have not been independently established.

The meeting is expected to determine the next steps regarding the T20I captaincy and coaching set-up.
