Bangladesh bow out of all six archery team events

Bangladesh endured a disappointing day in the team events at the Asian Games, exiting all six men’s, women’s and mixed team events in recurve and compound archery on Sunday.

In the men’s compound team event at Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park, Bangladesh drew 232-232 with Iran after four sets. Iran eventually won the shoot-off 30-30 on countback, with three X shots to Bangladesh’s two.

The Bangladesh women’s compound team lost 229-228 to Kazakhstan in the pre-quarter-finals. The two sides drew the opening set 55-55 before Bangladesh lost the second 57-56, won the third 57-59 and lost the fourth 60-58.

The men’s and women’s compound teams therefore both exited at the pre-quarter-final stage.

In the recurve mixed team event, Abdur Rahman Alif and Monira Akter beat Thailand 6-0 to reach the pre-quarter-finals. They then lost 5-1 to hosts Japan.

Bangladesh also lost 158-154 to Iran in the compound mixed team event in the battle to reach the pre-quarter-finals.

The recurve men’s team lost 5-4 to Iran, while the women’s recurve team beat Japan 5-4 to reach the quarter-finals before losing 5-3 to Indonesia.

The individual compound events will begin on Monday. Bangladesh’s Himu Bashar will face Kazakhstan’s Andrei Taiyutaiyun in the round of 32, while Newaz Ahmed Rakib will take on Iran’s Milad Rashidi.

In the women’s compound individual event, Kulsuma Akter Moni will face Indonesia’s Nino Bonita Pereira, while Bannya Akter will meet Iran’s Gisha Baybordi.

World Archery’s official schedule confirms that the team eliminations were held on September 27, with compound individual eliminations beginning on September 28.
