JCD leader abducted in Cox’s Bazar, found dead with hands, legs tied

Isfatul Islam Jisan, 28, senior joint convener of the Kakara union unit of the JCD, was found dead with his hands and feet tied about four hours after he was allegedly abducted, police said.

His body was recovered from the Kachchhapia Dhala area along the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar highway.  He was the son of Nazem Uddin of South Lotoni area in Ward 3 of Kakara Kabir Tower in the Sabujbagh area of Ward 4 in Chakaria municipality. 

The incident reportedly took place around 11:30PM on Sunday as Jisan was returning home.

According to family members and local sources, Jisan was standing in front of a shop near Kakara Majher Station when a group of unidentified men arrived in a white microbus and allegedly forced him into the vehicle.

Jisan’s relatives alleged that he was taken to Kabir Tower in the Sabujbagh area of Ward 4 in Chakaria municipality, where he was subjected to severe physical torture before being killed. His body was then allegedly dumped beside the highway.

Chakaria police confirmed recovering Jisan’s body with his hands and feet tied.

Ismail Hossain, an operations officer at Chakaria Police Station, said the body was sent to the hospital morgue. He said further legal action would follow through investigation.

The killing has triggered anger among local JCD leaders and activists. Rezaul Karim Bappi, president of the Chakaria upazila JCD unit, condemned the incident and demanded that those responsible be identified and arrested within 24 hours.

He warned that if the perpetrators were not arrested within the deadline, the organisation would launch protests on the streets with the participation of general students.
